Our School's Curriculum

Our school curriculum comprises all the learning and other experiences that we plan for the children. Bispham Endowed Church of England Primary School is committed to providing a curriculum which fulfils the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and the National Curriculum and their assessment arrangements and meets the highest possible standards in terms of educational quality.

Each child has access to a broad and balanced curriculum, with built in continuity and progression supported by year group and whole school planning.

Our curriculum promotes the spiritual, moral, social, cultural,  mental and physical development of the children at school and within society and prepares the children for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

The areas of learning in the EYFS and the subjects in the National Curriculum  form part of our curriculum, as does our daily act of collective worship and Religious Education.  We also make provision for Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHEE) through the range of experiences and opportunities which are made available to the children throughout their time in our school.

We aim to develop the children’s fluency and confidence in numeracy and other mathematical skills by providing mathematical opportunities across the curriculum, not only in mathematics. Similarly fluency and understanding of the English language is an essential foundation for success in all subjects, so children’s spoken language, reading, writing and vocabulary are developed across the curriculum, not only in English.

Topics for each subject and RE have been agreed for 2015-2016 by each year group, although these could be subject to change if other enriching opportunities for learning and development arise during the course of the year.

We continually review and evaluate the curriculum and then adapt it whenever necessary to ensure it is relevant and meets the needs of all of our children. Parents, carers and other family members are encouraged to become involved in their child's learning throughout their time in school.
